Cannot print jobs in Spool Window

Cause: If a Windows physical printer has been deleted or renamed, the Barr Host Communications Suite cannot connect to it.

Solution: If the physical printer was renamed, you must recreate it in the Configuration Utility. From the Spool Printers tab, remove the spool printer and then add the printer again.

Cause: When the Windows spooler service is stopped, the Barr Host Communications Suite cannot connect to Windows physical printers.

Solution: Open the Windows Printers folder and verify the printer icons are listed. If the printers are not listed, start the Windows spooler service and press F5 to refresh the Printers window. You must then restart the SpoolCore service. If the printers do not exist, you must recreate the Windows printer. See the Getting started with printers for more information.

Spool Window takes a long time to open

Cause: If Barr Host Communications Suite is installed on a domain user account, the software will attempt to authenticate to a domain controller when opening the Spool Window and Configuration Utility. If the domain controller is experiencing problems, slow downs, or is unavailable, it will take a long time to open both the Spool Window and the Configuration Utility.

Solution: Verify that the domain controller is active and responding. Contact you Systems Administrator for assistance.

Documents in the Spool Window are in a Printing state, but are not printing

Cause: Xerox printers that receive data by TCP/IP require the sending device to specify a printer queue name. Without a printer queue name, a document can arrive at the printer, but will be discarded.

Solution: On the Barr LPR Port's Job tab, specify the appropriate printer queue name. Consult a Xerox technician in determining the appropriate printer queue name.

Received documents are not sorted correctly

Cause: The Spool Window's viewing sort order contains the Size column. When documents are being received into the Spool Window, they will not appear in the correct order because the actual file size is unknown.

Solution: To update the viewing sort order, double-click any of the previously sorted column headings. This will refresh your viewing sort order.

Long file names are truncated when sent with Print Utility

Cause: The field that receives the file name, NJHGJNAM - Job name, has a maximum character length of eight characters. The file name exceeds the maximum character length.

Solution: Use the NDHDJNAM - Custom job name field to receive the file name. See the Sending long file names with Print Utility common question for more information.

Spool Window does not update after Message service is restarted

Cause: The Spool Window only renews its connection with the Message service at startup. If the Spool Window is open when you manually stop and restart the Message service, the Spool Window will not update.

Solution: Reopen the Spool Window. The Spool Window will automatically renew its connection with the Message service during the Spool Window's initialization process.

Receiving "Unable to locate FCB" message

Cause: This message will appear if the If FCB is not found, use default FCB named 'STD' option on the Advanced Printer Options dialog box is not selected and the FCB is not found. The Spool Window field that contains the FCB name will either be the FCB name or Form name column. The field that is used is configured with the Select FCB using option on the Spool Printers tab.

Solution: Either create the appropriate FCB file, or select the If FCB is not found, use default FCB named 'STD' option on the Advanced Printer Options dialog box.
