This topic describes how you connect the RJE remote to the host using the RJE Console. RJE Console allows you to connect to the host manually or automatically.
Before you can connect to the host, you must follow the steps in the Getting started with RJE topic. If you encounter a problem during initial connection, we recommend starting the RJE Diagnostics utility before starting the connection from the RJE Console. RJE operators must be assigned the RJE Console user access right.
Start a connection
Complete the following steps to select a connection.
Open the RJE Console. If you have defined a default connection, this connection will connect to the host automatically. To disable the default connection in the future, on the menu bar, select Connections | Clear Default Connection.
If there is no default connection, the Select Connection dialog box will appear. Under Computer, select the Domain and Name from the drop-down lists and click List Connections. A list of connections available on the selected computer displays.
Select the connection you want to use. If you want to use this connection as the default, select the Default connection check box.
Click OK.
If you have defined a default connection, this connection will automatically connect to the host when you start RJE Console. When you use a default connection, an RJE Console configuration file named default.brj is created and saved in the same folder as the RJE Console .exe file. (The default folder is \\Program Files\Barr Systems\BHCS, unless an alternate path was specified during installation.)
Different host computers require different RJE configurations. When you start RJE, you can specify a configuration file that contains configuration parameters for a specific host. RJE Console configuration files (.brj) contain RJE Console window settings and if specified the information needed to connect to the host.
Configuration files are created when you save your configuration from the RJE Console. You can create as many configuration files as you need. Opening an RJE Console configuration file automatically launches RJE Console and connects to the host specified in the configuration file.
To open a RJE configuration file, complete one of the following procedures.
Open the RJE Console.
On the menu bar, select File | Open. The Open dialog box displays.
Select a configuration file (.brj), and then click Open.
You may want to create one or more shortcuts on the Windows desktop to open RJE Console configurations that you use frequently. For example, you might create a shortcut that connects to a host in Dallas and one that connects to a host in San Francisco.
Complete the following steps to create a shortcut to an existing configuration file.
Open Windows Explorer.
Navigate to the directory that contains the .brj file.
Right-click the .brj file and select Create Shortcut. A shortcut to the .brj file will be added to the folder.
Drag and drop the shortcut file from Windows Explorer onto the Windows desktop to create a shortcut. The shortcut icon will appear on the Windows desktop.
To open the RJE Console using the shortcut, simply double-click the shortcut icon on the Windows desktop. You can also open a configuration file (.brj) by double-clicking it in Windows Explorer.
Use one of the following methods to stop a connection from the RJE Console.
To end the current RJE Console session and disconnect the RJE remote from the host, on the menu bar, select Connections | Disconnect.
To end the current RJE Console session, on the menu bar, select Connections | Advanced | Stop Console Connection. This does not disconnect the RJE remote from the host or disconnect other consoles connected to the host.
To disconnect the RJE remote from the host, on the menu bar, select Connections | Advanced | Disconnect RJE from Host. Any consoles connected to the RJE remote will also be disconnected.
If a process is waiting to complete, a message displays on the console. When the process completes, the Status changes to Disconnected. To avoid waiting, on the menu bar, select Connections | Disconnect again. This forces the software to disconnect, even if the processes are not complete. Before you use this option, make sure that unfinished processes will not be critical to production.
To disconnect the RJE remote from the host and close the RJE Console, on the menu bar, select File | Disconnect and Exit.
If you modify an active connection, you must stop and restart the connection for changes to take effect.
Complete the following steps to stop and restart the active connection.
On the menu bar, select Connections | Disconnect.
