Capturing an HPR/IP trace

If you have communication problems, you can capture an HPR/IP trace. Complete the following steps to capture a trace.

You must be a member of the local Administrators group to operate the NJE Configuration Utility. If you are assigned the Configure - NJE user access right on the computer to which you are trying to connect, but are not a member of the Administrators group, the NJE Configuration Utility will operate in read-only mode.

  1. Open the NJE Configuration Utility.

  2. Select the Communications Profile tab.

  3. In the Name drop-down list, select your Barr SNA connection.

  4. Click Modify. The Connection Configuration dialog box displays.

  5. Next to Barr SNA configuration, click Modify. The Barr SNA Configuration dialog box displays.

  6. Under Link service, in the Name drop-down list, select the HPR/IP link service.

  7. Click Modify. The BARR/SNA HPR/IP Link Service utility displays.

  1. From the Trace tab, select Trace enabled. To include additional details in the trace file, select LDLC tracing.

  2. In the Trace format drop-down list, select Long or Short.

  3. In the Max trace file size text box, type the maximum trace file size.

  4. To include information about the internal functioning of the software, select Internal event tracing.

  5. Recreate the problem or software event.

  6. Clear the Trace enabled check box to stop the trace. The trace results are saved to a text file. By default, the file will be saved in the \\Program Files\Common Files\Barr\Trace folder. When you capture diagnostics with the Diagnostics Utility, this file will be automatically included.

  7. Click OK.
